A pair of good shows are happening tonight:
• Dead Fingers plays the Bourbon Theatre tonight with McCarthy Trenching and L0w Horse. Phil Schaffart of Con Dios alerted me to Dead Fingers, which is Kate Taylor (Maria Taylor’s sister) and Taylor Hollingsworth (guitarist from Conor Oberst’s Mystic Valley Band). I’ve liked Hollingsworth’s solo stuff as well as the songs he wrote and sang with the MVB such as “Air Mattress.” Should be a cool show. 9 p.m. start, $5 at the door.
Dead Fingers also plays O’Leaver’s tomorrow with McCarthy Trenching and Con Dios. (Schaffart told me Con Dios will be giving their vinyl album away for free at the show. They only ask that you have a record player.)
• At the Waiting Room, Max Holmquist takes the stage for his album release show under the name Great American Desert. Holmquist formerly played as South of Lincoln, but changed his “band” name when he made a shift in direction with his songs.
The new album, “Carson City,” is Holmquist on vocals and guitar and was recorded in a living room. It’s the same soft, sweet and sad stuff he plays live. Listen to the title track over at his Bandcamp page.
Great American Desert plays tonight with openers Millions of Boys, Betsy Wells and Family Picnic. Show at 9 p.m. $5 cover.
