Larry Boehmer, longtime owner of Lincoln’s Zoo Bar, died Monday. He was 65.
Boehmer, who sold the bar in 2000, lived in Nebraska most of his life. He graduated from Pawnee City High School and earned both a bachelor and master of fine arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After selling the bar to his son, Jeff, and Pete Watters, Boehmer moved to Arkansas.
Longtime Zoo Bar patrons, musicians and others are leaving dozens of tributes to Boehmer on Facebook.
In addition to hosting numerous blues artists including Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and the Beat Farmers at the Zoo Bar, Boehmer himself was a musician. For years, he played bass in bands such as the Heartmurmurs, The Tablerockers and Not All There.
