She & Him’s band to play Wednesday at Pageturners Lounge

If you want an early taste of She & Him, which plays Thursday at Stir Cove, head to Pageturners Lounge on Wednesday night.

The Wednesday night gig will feature musicians from She & Him’s backing band including Chriss Scruggs, Mike Coykendall and The Chapin Sisters. Ark of Life will also play the free show, which starts at 9 p.m.

The show will only feature those musicians, and is not a secret gig for She & Him’s M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel.

“Just to be clear, anyone who is expecting to hear Zooey or Matt will be disappointed as they won’t be taking the stage,” said Phil Schaffart, who co-owns the bar along with Conor Oberst.

Schaffart, who often works as road crew for Bright Eyes and other bands, is currently on tour with She & Him and invited the band to play at Pageturners Lounge.

Should be a cool show. All of those people are mega-talented and have put out some really good music outside of She & Him.

Scruggs is the grandson of bluegrass musician Earl Scruggs (but only met him shortly before the legend died), and is a noted country musician and multi-instrumentalist. Coykendall is a producer and songwriter who has played with Ward and She & Him for years. The Chapin Sisters — Abigail and Lilly Chapin  — have released two full-length pop albums, “Two” and an Everly Brothers tribute called “A Date with The Everly Brothers.”
