Mystic Valley Band to play Conor Oberst-less show at Pageturners

The Mystic Valley Band – minus Conor Oberst – will play a show at Oberst’s Pageturners Lounge next week.

Before Conor Oberst brings the Mystic Valley Band back together for a two-night stand at Slowdown, he invited them up to his bar for a turn on that stage as well.

Jason Boesel, Nik Freitas, Macey Taylor, Taylor Hollingsworth and Nate Walcott will play a show at Pageturners on Tuesday, July 30 — the night before they play Slowdown. Freitas, Hollingsworth and Boesel have all made pretty good solo albums (and took turns writing with Oberst on the MVB’s second record), and they’ll be playing songs from those records.

“It will be pretty loose but everyone will back everyone up in some capacity,” said Pageturners co-owner Phil Schaffart. (Schaffart also directed a pretty cool documentary about the MVB.)

Tuesday’s show, which will not include Oberst, begins at 10 p.m. and is free.

In addition, Mike Williams (also known as MiWi La Lupa) will perform at Pageturners on Friday, Aug. 2. Williams will open both MVB shows, so they invited him to play Pageturners as well. That show will also begin at 10 p.m. and will be free.

Williams is also a part of Red Baraat, which plays tonight at Jazz on the Green.
