Review: Yonder Mountain String Band jams for more than three hours

Yonder Mountain String Band performs at Sumtur Amphitheater for 1,300 barefoot hippies and banjo fans.

A confession: I don’t love jam bands. Send me to a Phish concert and I’d likely get bored.

And, you know, Yonder Mountain String Band wasn’t perfect (they stepped on a couple notes while firing through a thousand more in countless jams), but I was entertained for the entirety of the band’s three-hour set.

Part of it is that the four guys are just fantastic musicians and the other part is the songwriting. Just when I got tired of hearing 500 notes per minute, they’d break into a song like “Half Moon Rising,” which is getting added to my music library.

Anyway, it was a fun show. Check out a photo gallery from the show below.
